anArtist statement
Something happens, like an election, a verdict, a meme or a very strange Tuesday, and by morning I've had a reaction. Most people post theirs. I stitch, print, cut, tool leather or draw mine.
Hot Take Studio has three rules:
Make it fast
The moment is the brief.
Make it by hand
Or at least hands-on.
Make it extra
Far more craft than the moment strictly deserves.
think of it asA hot take,
slow-cooked overnight.
None of it is for sale, none of it has a client, and none of it needs your approval. (It would like it, though.)
how IGot here
- 1
once upon a time
Fourth-generation designer
Grew up in a family of artists, illustrators and fashion designers, fully intending to become an illustrator and graphic designer.
- 2
and then
Y2K happened
Swapped ink and paper for startups, doing web design and R&D while everyone made up the rules. That included an early photo-sharing platform years before Instagram, and listings software for real estate agents before "PropTech" was a thing.
- 3
so naturally
The agency years
As self-serve site builders took over, ran my own agency making handcrafted, custom-coded experiences for one-of-a-kind businesses. No cookie-cutter websites.
- 4
meanwhile
Design leader
Fifteen years at a well-known fintech, building the team I wanted to work with: amazingly talented people with plenty of hot takes of their own.
- 5
and now
Hot Take Studio
Back to the making: craft that responds to the moment.
Design is all about understanding people, solving real problems, and bringing ideas to life through a maker's mindset and plenty of hot takes.
